Uyeda Shoe Store has been a family-owned business for three generations, including the current owner Claire Takashima. With deep roots to our Mo’ili’ili community, Uyeda’s remains a reliable resource of comfort footwear for our loyal customers.

It all started in 1915 with Claire's grandpa, Sai­jiro Uyeda, in a small shop on Fort Street. “When my grandfather immigrated, I guess someone told him ‘why don't you repair shoes instead of slaving away in the plantation’? So he decided to first open up a shoe repair store," said Takashima.

The business took off and in the 1930s it expanded into a shop on North King Street. Claire's father eventually took over the business in the late 1930s and moved it to South King Street. Claire became the owner in 1981.

Since then we have moved to University Avenue between King Street and Kuilei Lane. We look forward to serving Honolulu for generations to come.

FAQs

 

Do you carry children’s shoes?

We carry shoes designed for adults only. We do not sell children’s shoes.

Do you carry other items besides shoes?

Absolutely. We have great socks, insoles, metatarsal pads, heel cups, full length shoehorns, and other items to keep your feet happy. We also carry shoe polish and hike spikes.

Non-footwear items include a variety of CBD products, fascianator rollers, travel gadgets and accessories.

Can you hold shoes for me if I call ahead?

We hold shoes up to a week on a case-by-case basis depending on availability. We also accept special orders over the phone if you pay in advance. The special order shoes are not refundable.

Do you provide expertise and service related to unique foot issues?

Yes, our staff are experienced in dealing with a wide range of issues, such as diabetic conditions, bunions, plantar fasciitis, among others. We often receive referrals from podiatrists and other medical professionals.

Can I place a special order for shoes?

It depends on the shoe and the brand. Please call us to inquire about special ordering. The special order shoes are not refundable.

Do you carry hiking boots?

Yes! Currently, our brands include Hoka, Salomon, Merrell, Keen, and others.
